St. Jude'sResearch Service Unit is seeking a Lead Research Services Technologist to provide leadership and support services for Research Services. The primary function of this role will be to provide quality control and assist with the advanced model breeding colony management and training as dictated by customers within the St. Jude research community.
In addition, the Lead Research Services Technologist will assist management by providing hands-on training and proficiency evaluation of technicians relative to technical skills and SOP content. Through collaboration with research labs, new processes and procedures are developed to ensure expert execution of advanced technical work within the in vivo space, ensuring the high quality and reproducibility of scientific research projects.
TheResearch Services Unitof the ARC provides multiple technical skills for the advancement of research with a focus on efficiency, dependability, integrity, and quality so the research community can further their scientific efforts and, as a result, strive to improve the quality of human life. The Technologist is expected to execute in vivo projects from beginning to end as dictated by research needs. Required to work in all areas of the facility and with all murine, especially severely immunocompromised study murine models.
Job Responsibilities:
Independently address time-sensitive/complex researcher needs and perform advanced procedures within the area.
Monitor and maintain supplies within the area.
Oversee accurate and timely documentation (e.g., medical histories, process logs).
Troubleshoot issues with procedures and drive implementation and documentation of corrective action.
Develop, evaluate, recommend, and implement new procedures/methods/treatments.
Lead development and documentation of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
Collaborate with internal/external teams (e.g., researchers, cross-functional teams, vendors) to coordinate and accomplish team outcomes.
Train and guide team members around complex veterinary/research services activities and address any escalations/deviations.
Performs other related duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
High school diploma/GED
Minimum Experience:
6+ years of experience in a professional husbandry care facility (e.g. zoo, veterinary clinic, laboratory facility) OR Associate's degree in Lab Science, Biology, Toxicology, or Agricultural with 5+ years experience OR Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience.
Prior experience within own area (e.g. murine model handling and restraint; models species health monitoring; operation and sanitization/sterilization of equipment; sample collection).
Significant experience working with applicable regulations and policies regarding murine model research (e.g. ILAR Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Species, USDA Welfare Act and Regulations).
Significant experience working with ARC or comparable software systems and databases for maintenance/review of documentation/records.
Significant experience proposing/implementing process improvements within own area.
Proven performance in earlier role/ comparable role.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required:
- Laboratory Technologist (LATG) - American Association for Laboratory Science preferred.
Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Is able to perform more advanced techniques and complex procedures (e.g., Res. Services: an aseptic collection of tissues/organs, surgical/necropsy procedures, advanced murine breeding colony maintenance, Vet. Services: complex vet procedures, emergency triaging, and treatment planning) with guidance.
Anticipates and addresses critical research/vet services requirements through engagement with relevant team stakeholders.
Guides early career team members around standard operating procedures.
Breaks down complex problems into elements, prioritizes and works on them in an organized way.
Is willing to challenge existing assumptions where relevant.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
