Job Responsibilities:
Assists the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) with administering Radiation, Laser and MR Safety Programs for medical and research uses.
Performs and oversees program audits, surveys, and testing to demonstrate compliance with regulations, licenses, and policies.
Maintains familiarity with regulations, licenses, and policies and organizes records in preparation for site inspections.
Coordinates safety and security measures for sources of concern.
Performs equipment, area survey, safety interlocks and air monitoring for radiological contamination. Performs radiation safety program audits and evaluation. Performs quantitative and qualitative calibrations on a variety of radiation detection instruments. Audits laser systems for compliance with ANSI standards.
Mentors the radiation staff to optimize divisional production is of premium quality. Provide technical assistance and guidance on radiation safety problems- shielding designs, waste handling procedures and licensing requirements. Oversee radiation therapy treatment, waste disposal and radioactive material shipments.
Assumes the leadership role of Radiation Laboratory Supervisor in his/her absence.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering, health physics or related scientific discipline required. Master’s degree in health physics preferred
Minimum Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in applied health physics in a medical/research radiation safety program, or three (3) years with Master’s degree.
Knowledge and implementation of federal and state regulations and license conditions preferred
Prior experience with Workday systems is highly desirable
Familiarity with EPIC electronic health records is a strong plus.
Background in a hospital environment, particularly involving radiopharmaceutical research, is highly valued
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $86,320 - $154,960 per year for the role of Senior Health Physicist.Explore our exceptional benefits!
