The St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital's, recently established Research Education and Training Grant Office (RETGO) is seeking a Program Manager. RETGO offers a growing number of programs, workshops, and events focused on providing grantsmanship and training on various aspects of the research landscape.  The Office provides training and support to early-stage researchers seeking extramural support for their research and transitioning into independent research careers. This individual will co-lead or lead grant workshops. This Program Manager will also develop grant-related research education materials, and plan and coordinate related training events for clinical research, postdoctoral fellows, and early career faculty.  The Program Manager will also assist in supporting institutional training grants and provide one-on-one consultation and support for researchers on proposal preparation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Teaching or co-teaching seminars and workshops related to grant writing and proposal development
  • Organizing in-person and online meetings and workshops
  • Developing tools for effective grantsmanship and research education
  • Advising postdoctoral, clinical, and early-stage faculty on how to identify funding opportunities, proposal development, and grantsmanship strategies
  • Supporting the design and implementation of policies and procedures for RETGO
  • Providing website content updates for the RETGO website
  • Ensuring timely submission of required sponsor programmatic reports as necessary;
  • Tracking outcomes of teaching and training provided by RETGO
  • Managing RETGO funding database and coordinating announcements to the research community for specific funding opportunities.
  • Maintaining in-depth knowledge of federal and non-federal sponsor requirements
  • Participating in and contributing to RETGO team meetings;
  • Coordinating with St. Jude offices including the Academic Programs Office

Skills and Abilities:

  • Outstanding oral, and written communication skills
  • Expertise in conceptualizing and crafting research proposals
  • Proven excellent organizational and time-management skills
  • Experience in identifying and applying for external funding for biomedical research.
  • Experience in grant proposal development and research program administration, preferably in an academic environment
  • Experience and familiarity with the NIH proposal submission
  • Ability to develop teaching and/or training materials
  • High degree of organizational effectiveness and attention to detail

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • PhD preferred.

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of research, biomedical, or clinical experience.
  • Experience designing and managing research programs preferred.
  • Experience in program budget tracking, reporting, and risk management preferred.
  • Proven experience engaging with senior leaders to facilitate decision-making preferred.
  • Some experience driving continuous program improvement projects preferred.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $86,320 - $154,960 per year for the role of Program Manager - Research Education and Training Grant Office.
