There’s a reason St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is recognized as a great place to work. Because at our world-class pediatric research hospital, every one of our professionals shares our commitment to make a difference in the lives of the children we serve. There’s a unique bond when you’re part of a team that gives their all to advance the treatments and cures of pediatric catastrophic diseases. The result is a collaborative, positive environment where everyone, regardless of their role, receives the resources, support and encouragement to advance and grow their careers and be the force behind the cures.
The Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of instructor within the Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
This newly created position is part of the departmental strategic plan to grow pharmacogenomic research at St. Jude within the next 5 years. With substantial institutional commitment in resources and space, this initiative aims to expand and accelerate research into the genomic basis of inter-patient variability in drug efficacy and toxicity. We are particularly interested in candidates who focus on 1) experimental modeling of drug toxicity, 2) mechanistic studies of drug-induced tissue damage, and 3) the development and/or application of functional genomics techniques to investigating drug toxicity traits.
The Instructor rank is designated for individuals with doctoral degrees who have completed research and/or clinical training and possess substantial potential for an academic career but require additional development prior to transitioning to an Assistant Member position. The Instructor will be provided with direct mentorship by a senior investigator within the division, with whom he/she will develop a research program that warrants consideration for eventual promotion to the rank of Assistant Member at St. Jude after 3 years.
The mission of the department is to generate new knowledge to advance pharmacotherapy and provide the best patient care for children with catastrophic diseases. Currently the Division of Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences has 12 investigators, including two members of the National Academy of Medicine, with over $6M in NIH funding annually. The division also houses the Center for Translational Pharmacology, the Pharmacotyping Resource, and the newly created Center for Pharmacogenomics.
Faculty members at St. Jude are provided with generous institutional support, e.g., salary, research operating budgets, and support staff positions, depending on the candidate’s qualifications and needs.
As a premier research institute focusing on catastrophic diseases in children, St. Jude offers outstanding opportunities and support to collaborative research programs in pharmaceutical sciences, developmental therapeutics, cancer biology and genomics, infectious diseases, neurobiology, non-malignant hematology, cell therapy & immunology, late effects of cancer therapy, computational biology. Interdisciplinary research programs, along with outstanding shared resources, facilitate collaborations among a highly collegial group of scientists across the institution.
Successful candidates should have a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacology or a related discipline or clinical doctorate (PharmD, MD) and appropriate post-doctoral training.
To apply:
Please submit a curriculum vitae, a concise summary of research contributions with links to three publications, a well-articulated research plan (3-5 pages) and three letters of support directly online.
