This role is expected to primarily work on campus.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provides ethics consultations and debriefings for clinical teams, patients and families, trainees, and researchers across the organization to address ethical issues in pediatric healthcare.
- Leads clinical ethics rounds to provide proactive support and education to clinical staff and residents.
- Participates in the development, review and revision of policies, resources, and education.
- Serves as a core member of the institution’s ethics committee.
- Prepares and provides education for clinical staff on topics of clinical ethics and preventive ethics. Develops and teaches related curricula to the multidisciplinary team, clinical trainees, and the professional community at large.
- Collects data, including trends, issues, and outcome data, for ethics consultations. Identifies opportunities for clinical teams/units in performance improvement and/or quality improvement activities related to clinical ethics.
- Collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary professional staff; supports resiliency and moral distress mitigation efforts.
- Serves on ad hoc committees/ projects; contributes to interdepartmental and interdisciplinary meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned to support the department and the institution.
- Participates in ethics clinical call coverage (includes nights, weekends, holidays)
- Maintains regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
- Master's degree in relevant field required: Bioethics, Nursing, Medicine, Law, or related (i.e. MDiv, MSW), with preference for those with advanced degrees in an ethics or related field.
Minimum Experience:
For Bioethicist I:
- Three (3) years in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Two (2) years in clinical ethics consultation preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and clinical competencies in applying concepts and methods involved in clinical ethics and clinical ethics consultation preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with research protocols preferred.
For Bioethicist II:
- Three (3) years in a healthcare environment.
- Two (2) years in clinical ethics consultation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of principles and clinical competencies in applying concepts and methods involved in clinical ethics and clinical ethics consultation preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with research protocols preferred.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:
- None
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by SJCRH Only:
- Health Ethics Consultant-Certified (HEC-C) or willingness to obtain within the first year preferred.
A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $78,000-139,360 per year for the role of Bioethicist I.
A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $86,320-154,960 per year for the role of Bioethicist II.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
