We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Respiratory Therapist to join our healthcare team. This role is vital in providing high-quality respiratory care, supporting patients and their families, and ensuring the smooth operation of respiratory services. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, patient-focused, and committed to excellence in clinical practice.
The Respiratory performs and reports on respiratory assessments, ensuring high-quality care for patients with respiratory conditions. Assists with patient and family communications to support the execution of treatments, tests, and in-service education. Key duties include maintaining and cleaning respiratory equipment, handling and processing specimens, ordering supplies, and providing thorough documentation of patient histories, test results, and monthly reports.
This role is 7p-7a with rotating weekends and holidays.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Execute assigned activities related to age-appropriate care and education (including diagnosis, treatment, and management of respiratory pathophysiology) in collaboration with other patient care team members across patient care areas.
  • Operate equipment and execute processes as per protocol to ensure optimal diagnostic quality of patient care.
  • Communicate with patient and family around procedures and follow-up; monitor and address/ escalate any distress reported by patient.
  • Document and maintain appropriate medical records.
  • Communicate patient information (including care needs, interventions, and patient response) to MDs and other health care providers as required, to assure continuity of patient care.
  • Observe for changes in patient condition, take appropriate action, and report changes to the appropriate team.
  • Perform quality control activities, document results, and escalate issues as required.
  • Assist in set-up, calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting activities for respiratory equipment within patient care areas.
  • Guide adherence to infection control policies/ universal precautions through education of patient/family and team members and ongoing enforcement in nursing units.
  • Support inventory management including monitoring, receipt, and appropriate storage of supplies; report inventory replenishment requirements to relevant teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and institution.
  • Maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited school of respiratory care required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from and accredited school of respiratory care preferred.
  • Basic Life Support required
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support required.

Minimum Experience:

  • 2+ years of pediatric respiratory care experience required.
  • Experience within a pediatric critical care setting preferred.
  • Some administrative support experience preferred (e.g., electronic data entry, records management, word processing, spreadsheet).

Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

  • Licensure as a Registered Respiratory Therapist with ABG endorsement from the Tennessee State Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapy credential is required from the National Board of Respiratory Care.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $29.00 - $50.50 per hour for the role of Respiratory Therapist.
