The Cytogenetic Shared Resource (CSR) has a career opportunity for a Lead Researcher or Senior Researcher with experience in the field of cytogenetics. The CSR is an institutional core facility that provides a large range of cytogenetic services to investigators throughout the institution.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
Experience in karyotyping of human G-band samples
Knowledge of mouse G-band karyotyping would be beneficial
Experience in operating and maintaining the Applied Spectral Imaging karyotype/FISH scanner and karyotyping stations
Operational knowledge of other cytogenetic systems may be considered
Experience in preparation of and performing fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH)
Ability to keep accurate, detailed records of work performed
Ease and skill in interacting with the many users of the CSR and participation in a team environment
Ability to work independently across multiple projects as directed
Desire to learn and troubleshoot new assays as directed
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other Microsoft products
Organizational skills
Good interpersonal skills
American Society of Clinical Pathology certification in cytogenetics CG(ASCP)
The Following are Highly Recommended:
Customer or client interaction experience
Experience with Workday software
Assay troubleshooting abilities
Job Responsibilities:
Processing and karyotyping of G-banded human and mouse samples submitted to this facility
Use, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the Applied Spectral Imaging karyotype/FISH scanner and cytogenetic work capture stations
Preparing and performing Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) experiments on specimens of either human or mouse origin
Assisting in the day-to-day operation of the lab in a team environment
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the field and related techniques.
Provide ongoing support for monitoring, maintenance, ordering, and purchasing of equipment and supplies as needed.
Perform calibration of instruments and equipment as necessary.
Provide guidance and training to less-experienced team members and may also train others outside lab in relevant techniques.
Perform other duties as assigned to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institution.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific area
Lead Researcher Minimum Experience:
Five (5) years of relevant, post-degree work experience is required
Two (2) years of relevant post-degree work experience is required with a Master's degree
No experience is required with a PHD
Lead Researcher salary: $65,520.00/yr. - $114,400.00/yr.
Senior Researcher Minimum Experience:
Two (2) years of relevant, post-degree work experience is required.
No experience is required with a Master's degree.
Senior Researcher salary: $60,320.00/yr. - $105,040.00/yr.
Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
