This is an exciting opportunity for an Lead Researcher/ Scientist to join our Center for Advanced Genome Engineering (CAGE). Our laboratory offers a strong team-based environment where you will work collaboratively with other investigators across the institution to support their research needs and develop and improve genome engineering technologies. As a member of this laboratory, you will bring in cutting edge protocols to provide newer and better workflows to our genome engineering operations, perform research focused on improving gene editing techniques and developing new ones, and aid St. Jude investigators by creating custom genome-modified cell lines.
Your expertise in programming with Python/R and familiarity with cluster environments will enable you to develop new programs as well as integrate published processes to aid the CAGE with genome engineering. A successful candidate for this position will have a proven track record of driving a research project to completion, have a strong ability to multitask, and, perform complex, multidisciplinary, long-term experiments. This individual should be able to identify gaps in experimental design and independently incorporate new methods and protocols.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Expertise in cell and molecular biology.
  • Computer programming experience (Python, R, computing clusters, and bioinformatic workflows).
  • Expert in developing and validating new protocols/procedures.
  • Excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong ability to perform independent research and interpret complex research data and generate novel solutions.
  • Ability to monitor data integrity.
  • Experience with genome engineering.
  • A proven record of driving a project to completion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Next generation sequencing library preparation and analysis experience a plus.
  • Supervisory experience a plus.
  • CRISPR/shRNA screening experience a plus.

Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific area is required.

Minimum Experience:

  • Eight (8) years of relevant work experience is required.
  • Six (6) years of relevant work experience is required with a Master's degree.
  • Three (3) years of relevant work experience is required with a PhD.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $86,320 - $154,960 per year for the role of Scientist for Center for Advanced Genome Engineering.
