SCIENCE RESEARCH WRITER--INNATE IMMUNITY

The laboratory of Dr. Thirumala-Devi Kanneganti investigates signaling pathways involved in innate immunity and cell death with a particular focus on NLRs, inflammatory cell death (PANoptosis), and understanding how these pathways connect and impact health and disease. Successful candidates will have excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and data management skills. Flexibility to respond to rapidly changing priorities and competing deadlines, along with a keen attention to detail, are also important in this position. Prior scientific writing and editorial experience is highly desirable.
Responsibilities
Draft and edit manuscripts for publication in journals. This will include drafting review articles, research highlights, and commentaries as well as assisting with the drafting of primary research articles.
Monitor data integrity and image quality during manuscript development.
Provide guidance to researchers on best practices in scientific writing.
Stay up to date on literature in the field to inform writing directions.
Assist with institutional and regulatory protocol amendments, revisions, and submissions.
Assist with the preparation of major grant applications and project proposals, including creating figures and drafting content.
Prepare and publish website content.
Maintain internal technical documents.
Minimum Education and/or Training:
Master's degree in life sciences or a related field required.
PhD preferred.
Minimum Experience:
Minimum requirement: 2+ years of experience as a scientific editor or relevant research and publication.
Experience in the construction of scientific documents (journal articles or grant applications) preferred.
Experience in experimental design; statistical principles; effective display of scientific data; and publication policies, procedures, and ethics.
Experience in the construction of NIH grant applications preferred.
Special Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Demonstrates editorial skills and understanding of scientific publications to ensure clarity, effectiveness, and accuracy in material reviewed.
Is able to review and edit documents with focus on grammar, nomenclature, spelling, usage, etc. with limited guidance.

Compensation
In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
