ADVANCE PRACTICE PROVIDER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EDUCATOR

The Center of Advanced Practice supports the professional development, clinical excellence, and lifelong learning of advanced practice providers that is in alignment with the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The APP Professional Development Educator has the responsibility to enhance, promote and maintain high standards in advanced practice provider (APP) professional growth, development and quality patient care. Assesses, develops, implements and evaluates a comprehensive plan for meeting the educational needs of the advanced practice provider team. This is accomplished in collaboration with managers, directors, clinical specialists, nursing staff, interprofessional team members, and other subject matter experts. The education plan includes orientation of new APP staff, provision of APP staff development activities, focused and on-going professional practice evaluation assessment and continuing education programs to include global nursing.

The APP educator assures staff can demonstrate appropriate job performance skills and competencies, including culturally appropriate direct patient care and patient/family education. The roles of the APP educator include learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific and scholarly inquiry, advocate for APP specialty beyond academic certification, partner for practice transitions and facilitating navigation of the continuum of care. Overall outputs of APP practice are learning, change, professional role competence and growth, which ultimately lead to optimal patient care delivery and outcomes, population health, and advocacy for the professional image of the APP to practice at top of licensure.


Minimum Education and/or Training:

  • Board certified as APRN (Advanced Practice Registered Nurse), CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, or PA (Physician Assistant) post graduate degree(s) required

  • BLS required at time of hire, ACLS and PALS within first year


Minimum Experience:

  • Five (5) years of previous clinical experience as an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) required

  • Pediatric hematology and oncology experience preferred

  • Healthcare simulation experience preferred


Licensure, Registration and/or Certification Required by Law:

State License required:

  • For Advanced Practice RNs and Certified Nurse Anesthetists: Must possess a current Advanced Practice Nurse License issued by the Tennessee State Board of Nursing (LC: AP-TN) and either a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state (LC:RN-TN) or a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state (LC: RN-ARK, RN-MISS or RN-KY)

  • For Physician Assistants: Must possess a license from the Tennessee Board of Physician Assistants.


National Certification required:

  • For Nurse Practitioners: Nurse Practitioner Certification: American Nurses Credentialing Center (LC:ANCC-NP) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (LC: AA-NP) or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (LC: PNCB)

  • For Certified Nurse Anesthetists: (LC: NBCRNA) Certification by National Board of Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists

  • For Physician Assistants: (LC:NCCPA-CERT) Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

  • (LC:DEA) DEA certified by U.S. Department of Justice Drug Enforcement Administration within 6 months of employment.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $104,000 - $186,160 per year for the role of Advance Practice Provider Professional Development Educator.
