POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATE - GIBSON LAB (CELL & MOLECULAR BIOLOGY)
Memphis, TNThe World’s Most Dedicated Never Give Up
There’s a reason St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is recognized as a great place to work. Because at our world-class pediatric research hospital, every one of our professionals shares our commitment to make a difference in the lives of the children we serve. There’s a unique bond when you’re part of a team that gives their all to advance the treatments and cures of pediatric catastrophic diseases. The result is a collaborative, positive environment where everyone, regardless of their role, receives the resources, support and encouragement to advance and grow their careers and be the force behind the cures.
The Gibson Lab in the Department of Cell and Molecular Biology invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to investigate how biomolecular phase transitions guide higher-order genome structure and influence disease. We combine biochemistry, genomics, cellular engineering, and advanced microscopy to build and perturb chromatin condensates in vitro and in cells, with the goal of revealing mechanisms that control genome organization and gene regulation.
We are seeking an organized andcreative experimentalist with a track record of success and a thoughtful and collaborative mindset to drive high-impact projects at the interface of chromatin biology, condensate biophysics, and genome regulation.
Responsibilities
Master technical disciplines: design and execute rigorous experiments in chromatin biochemistry, complex reconstitutions, imaging studies, and/or genomics to probe condensate mechanisms and genome organization.
Develop expertise in communication: maintain excellent experimental records and protocols; prepare datasets for presentations or publication.
Be a good lab citizen: work in a friendly and respectful environment where colleagues work together to accelerate research.
Find your perspective: pursue fellowships and co-write manuscripts; help shape your project as you grow toward independence.
Collaborate effectively: we work with experts at St Jude and abroad to pursue impactful interdisciplinary projects that expand and enrich the perspective and environment for trainees.
Learn to lead: pursue active opportunities in mentoring graduate, undergraduate, and high school scholars in advancing their scientific skillsets.
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications
PhD (or soon-to-be) in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biophysics, Cell Biology, or a related field.
Evidence of prior academic success in the form of first author publications.
Hands-on strength in one or more: chromatin biochemistry or biophysics, protein purification, quantitative imaging, single-molecule or biophysical assays.
Organized, clear communicator; thrives in environments with respectful, feedback-rich scientific discourse.
What you’ll gain
Close mentoring and regular feedback.
An opportunity to lead projects that align with your career goals.
Access to outstanding shared resources.
