Graphic Designer

At St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, every employee is vital to the mission of finding cures and saving children. As an integral member of Biomedical Communications, you will join a collaborative team of visual media developers in photography, videography, and graphic design, serving a scientific and medical community of more than 5,000 faculty and staff across 150 departments.


Our work encompasses a wide array of internal and external visual media projects including medical illustrations, scientific graphics, patient education animations, social media assets, architectural renderings, and employee communications. 


Our Graphic Designers have a passion for the visual arts with strong creative abilities. We are a team of skilled communicators, working with colleagues throughout the institution to deliver audience-appropriate messaging on complex scientific and medical concepts. We are innovative and resourceful, leveraging our skills and resources to meet the diverse design needs of St. Jude whether it’s to communicate scientific discoveries, provide employee information, or help a family better understand their treatment.


All candidates are required to submit a portfolio.  




Skills,Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Advanced competencies in all standard graphics software
  • Mastery of design principles and techniques: creative process; client briefing; creative concept development; visual storytelling; traditional and vector illustration; composition; layout; photo manipulation; typography; file preparation
  • Advanced skills in all forms of static/print design
  • Awareness and passion for current and future design trends
  • Enthusiasm for emerging technologies
  • Ability to demonstrate continual professional development through expanding skill sets and creative capabilities
  • Ability to contribute to the continual enhancement of the section's technological and creative capabilities, and the enrichment of the product and service provided to our clientele
  • Ability and temperament to adapt to changing situations and stressful demands within the work place
  • Ability to meet the public and other hospital staff in a pleasant and helpful manner
  • Two (2) years of experience in a professional design position or related field required
  • Four (4) additional years of experience in a professional design position or related position may be substituted if the candidate has an Associate's degree in graphic design or related field
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred
